With 2020 being the ultimate garbage pile, and most people staying home for the holidays, now is the perfect time to distract yourself with media while eating leftovers alone in your apartment.
Here are six of the best movies to watch this Thanksgiving.
1. Addams Family Values
This cult classic sequel (that is actually better than the original) might be a surprising choice for the list. Gomez and Morticia Addams are convinced to send their children Wednesday and Pugsley off to the most middle-class, mundane summer camp.
While at camp, the kids are forced to participate in the end-of-camp show, which happens to be a Thanksgiving pageant…in July. Wednesday and her crew are cast as the Native Americans, and she takes the opportunity to ad lib some truth about the history of this holiday.
Ya know, she’s not wrong.
2. The Fantastic Mr. Fox
OK, so, this movie doesn’t technically take place during Thanksgiving, but it just has that vibe, you know? From the autumnal color palette to the nature-centric shots, this movie is perfect for a Thanksgiving afternoon viewing.
3. Knives Out
Again, here’s another movie where the plot isn’t centered around Thanksgiving, but it does involve a large family gathering with people coming in from all over to argue in a giant house. What’s more Thanksgiving than that?
Released Thanksgiving week of 2019, this mystery movie is pretty close to perfect and is a great watch. With lots of twists and turns and family backstabbing, Knives Out is a great choice.
4. Home For The Holidays
If you’re feeling down for missing your family this holiday season, try watching Home for the Holidays. Director Jodie Foster dives deep into the less appealing aspects of family gatherings, which is sure to make you feel better about your current situation.
5. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
This is a quintessential holiday movie. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles highlights the struggle of travel, with time constantly working against you, all so you can make it back home to eat some dry, flavorless turkey.
If you’re even slightly missing the nightmare that is traveling on Thanksgiving, just watch this.
6. Thankskilling
First, this is not a good movie—it’s an amazing movie. A murderous, demon possessed turkey goes on a killing spree of coeds. What more could you want?
It is very graphic and not for kids (we can’t even put the trailer on here). But ya know, it’s some fun garbage for a garbage holiday.
