You may not realize it, but there may be an optimal diet for your blood type. That’s the theory advanced by naturopath Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo. Dr. D’Adamo claims that the food you eat reacts chemically with your blood, creating a good or bad reaction depending on what you’re eating.
If you eat the right foods, you’ll have more energy, lose weight, and just be more efficient with your digestion, according to his research. Here’s what you should be eating, according to this Blood Type Diet.
Type O Blood
If you have type O blood, Dr. D’Adamo recommends a high-protein diet full of lean meats. He says that those with type O blood should eat plenty of fish and poultry, along with fresh vegetables. He recommends that these people also avoid grains, dairy, and beans to prevent bloating.
Along with this diet, Dr. D’Adamo recommends taking a natural supplement. He claims that many people with this blood type suffer from stomach issues that a supplement can help.
Type A Blood
Those with type A blood do best sticking to a meat-free diet, according to Dr. D’Adamo. He recommends that these people stick to fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, beans, and legumes.
Dr. D’Adamo also recommends that people stick to natural, organic foods instead of processed fruits and vegetables. Organic foods have fewer toxins than non-organic food which makes them healthier overall.
Type B Blood
People with type B blood should avoid a variety of foods according to Dr. D’Adamo’s research. Foods to avoid include corn, wheat, buckwheat, lentils, tomatoes, peanuts, and sesame seeds. He also recommends cutting back on chicken.
Instead, Dr. D’Adamo recommends that these people stick to a diet consisting of green vegetables, eggs, certain meats, and low-fat dairy.
Type AB Blood
Dr. D’Adamo recommends that people with type AB blood eat foods like tofu, seafood, dairy, and green vegetables. That’s because he claims people with this type of blood have low stomach acid which can make proper digestion difficult.
Another suggestion is that people with type AB blood should avoid caffeine, alcohol, smoked meats, or cured meats. Those have a tendency to cause stomach issues in individuals with type AB blood.
Exercising for Your Blood Type
Dr. D’Adamo also recommends completing specific exercises for your blood type. People with type O blood tend to do well with vigorous exercises such as running. People with type A blood tend to respond well to calming exercises like yoga or tai chi. People with type B blood are best with moderate exercise such as a 30-minute walk. People with type AB blood do well with whatever exercise they choose.
Disclaimer
Please note that this diet has critics. They claim that the science backing this diet up is weak and that diets should be individualized for everyone, not a “one size fits all” based on blood type. Critics also recommend talking with your doctor before beginning any exercise or diet regimen. While Dr. D’Adamo claims the science is strong and the diet gets results, it’s unclear just how effective the diet it is.
Still, if you’re trying to lose weight and haven’t had success, the Blood Type Diet and regular exercise might be the answer for you. Ultimately, find what works best for you.
