Everyone loves movie and television trivia. Luckily for us, we have some major fans (who might have a little too much time on their hands) who figured out some incredible statistics for us. With some solid research and good math skills, we have ourselves a statistical and financial breakdown of some very interesting things from our favorite shows and movies.

How Much Coffee the “Friends” Characters Drank

If there is one thing we can all agree on when it comes to Friends, it’s that they really loved their coffee. It was the common denominator for their 10-season run; they always could come back to Central Perk, have a cup of coffee, and get through anything. We heard of divorces, marriages, pregnancies, moving, and anything you could imagine, all of which was often discussed while the group of friends had a cup of coffee, most likely served by Gunther.

Well, 10 years is a long time to be drinking coffee. Lucky for us, we have Kit Lovelace, a writer out of London who watched all 236 episodes of the show and tallied up all the coffee that went with it.

Lovelace watched each episode in fast-forward and then hit play whenever the cast was in Central Perk or anywhere else where coffee might be served, such as an apartment. He then tallied it up per season and character, along with a total count.

In first place with 227 cups of coffee is Phoebe, followed by Chandler with 212, Monica with 198, Joey with 191, Ross with 188, and Rachel with 138. Maybe she was last because she worked at Central Perk the longest.

Lovelace even charted the season by season consummation report of coffee to see how their habits changed over time.

And of course, he also documented the price and found out the group spent over $2,000 on coffee during the show, which for 10 years really isn’t that bad.

Before we move on from Friends, there was one more crazy calculation done by a fan for how much money Joey owed Chandler. The original question was posted on a Reddit thread and then broken down by some users, which BuzzFeed cleaned up and documented. After all the rent, acting expenses, food, furniture, and everything else under the sun that Chandler bought for Joey (but don’t forget Joey did buy Chandler that Mr. T bracelet), the staggering amount Joey owed Chandler came out to roughly $114,260.

How Far “Game of Thrones” Distances Are

The seventh season of HBO juggernaut Game of Thrones is in full swing and needless to say, this season will involve a lot of traveling while everyone vies for their chance to sit on the Iron Throne and rule the Seven Kingdoms. We don’t want to give anything away, but if you are not a current viewer of Thrones, then you really need to reassess your life choices.

The show contains a lot of traveling, by horseback, boat, walking, carriage, and the occasional dragon. So, one Reddit user did the math to actually figure out the distance these characters are traveling. The user explains how he accomplished such a feat: “Armed with the Pythagorean theorem, an acute bout insomnia, a map in a language I can’t speak, and a staggering indifference to the fact that Martin (intentionally or otherwise) hasn’t produced a to-scale map of Westeros, I sat down and figured out how far apart stuff is.”

He posted all of his findings in a list on a Google Doc which you can view here. He believes that King’s Landing to Winterfell, for instance, is 1,460 miles.

Now whenever one of the characters have to travel to what seems like a truly different world, you can do the math and realize it might only be a couple hundred miles.

How Much Money Jim Spent Pranking Dwight in “The Office”

There are few greater rivalries than that of Jim Halpert and Dwight Schrute from The Office. The banter between these two characters is quoted to this day and despite the show ending in 2013, their pranks live on in offices everywhere.

NBC

Sometimes the pranks were simple and cheap, like putting Dwight’s stapler into a thing of Jell-O ($1.09), and sometimes, much more expensive, like Jim renting a tuxedo to make fun of Dwight’s dress code ($130-175).

The Reddit user who did the calculations explains, “Here’s what is probably the best guess out of any. I used this list of pranks and I took it as an absolute (meaning if it wasn’t on the list, it wasn’t counted as a prank). The total about spent on pranks was about $6,000 ($5590.95 according to my spreadsheet, but I probably underestimated).”

The Reddit user goes on to break down individual pranks per averaging a cost of $62.82. The full spreadsheet can be seen here but BuzzFeed was quick to point on that the Redditor didn’t count for damages to hotels or the office itself and bumped up the cost to roughly $10,000-$11,000.

How Much Barney From “How I Met Your Mother” Earned

How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) is a great show and if you haven’t seen it, it’s worth watching. Throughout the series, Barney (played by Neil Patrick Harris) is constantly wearing suits and talking about money. So, one Reddit user put the numbers to the test and found out how much money Barney makes per year.

The Redditor figured how through a series of math equations that look like something from Good Will Hunting that Barney makes around $1.7 million a year. You can see the breakdown of his math here but it involves a whole lot of suits and a lot of knowledge on HIMYM.

How Many People Are Alive in “The Walking Dead”

Just how many humans are still alive in the zombie-ridden world of The Walking Dead? Thanks to Matt Lieberman, we got the answer: 332,885. In a YouTube video , he breaks down the show, the math, and how he got to his number.

If you haven’t watched the show, then there are some definite spoiler alerts, but if you do watch it, it’s a great reminder to all that has happened in the show.

How Powerful Superman’s Punch Is

One superfan of Superman did the math (and trust us, while you can see it here, unless you’re a borderline mathematical genius it may not make sense to you)

DC Comics

The answer you’re interested in is: “1.02E10 Joules of energy into that punch. In better terms, that’s 2.43 tons of TNT.”

To give you a better idea visually, check out the above clip of a one-ton explosion (though we’d recommend turning the volume down). So, multiply that by one and half and you’ve got yourself a single punch by Superman.

How Many Shots James Bond Has Dodged

Thanks to Gordon Stranger, who explored James Bond’s various escape methods, we know that Bond has been fired at over 4,662 times since the first Bond filmed Dr. No premiered in 1962.

Not too shabby, Bond.

How Much Money Harry Potter’s Parents Left Him

We admit that we love the Harry Potter films, but we aren’t so involved with the films and books that we can make sense of this Reddit user’s math. As most fans of the series know, Harry’s parents died when he was just an infant. After being raised by Muggles until age 12, he is brought to his vault in the wizard bank, Gringott’s, and discovers his parents left him an immense amount of wealth.

image

To cut to the chase, Potter was worth at the very least $1.265 million, according to the user NeokratosRed. That’s a pretty good deal for a 12-year-old who had a pretty hard life up until that point. Though it’s not completely clear how much the Knuts, Sickles, and Galleons that make up wizard currency are worth in real-life, Muggle money, a few theories have been floated that helped this user with his calculations.

That being said, as NeokratosRed notes, “This was a minimum estimate, which means I took all the precautions of the case to underestimate the actual wealth … There were multiple mounds of gold coins, not just one, and there was also silver … We can see the value skyrocket to tens of millions.” Take a look and see how the user got there.
