Fashion designers are always pushing the envelope to see what they can get away with. After you see these five crazy products that are actually for sale right now, you might wonder whether they’ve gone too far.
1. Detachable Jeans
Detachable pants have been around for a while, but typically this design put function over fashion. It appears that these pants from Y/Project have bucked that trend. They “come in a 2-in-1 style with detachable straight-fit legs. The high-cut shorts and legs are held together with button tabs along the front and back.”
You can almost hear annoyed fathers across the country yelling in unison, “No daughter of mine is going out in public wearing those… what are they even!?!”
2. Cowboy Boot Sandals
Why would anyone ever want a pair of boots that are sandals? That seems to miss the whole point, right?
Well, here’s the story straight from the company that makes them, which is aptly named Redneck Boot Sandals:
“One sunny afternoon, Scotty Franklin, owner and CEO, was lounging on white sand beaches of Gulf Shores Alabama and saw a guy walking down the beach in cowboy boots. Scotty thought the poor fellow shouldn’t have to sacrifice cowboy fashion in order to stay cool on this hot day and looked down at his own feet and saw his flip flops and wondered if he could cut out his boots and make them into flip flops for the ultimate combination.
“When he got home, he cut out his boots into flip flops and wore them out. His friends saw the boots, thought they were hilarious and bought them from him. He made another pair — it happened again. After a while, Scotty realized that people really like this new fashion statement so he turned it into a business. To this day, Scotty can’t keep a pair of Redneck Boot Sandals without someone buying them right off his feet.”
Whatever you say, Scotty.
3. Lace Me Up Outfits for Men
Who says only ladies are allowed to get in on the sheer and lacy fun?
LA–based fashion brand Hologram City specializes in bizarre styles, particularly mesh and partially transparent clothing. They’ve created this line of pastel-colored lace outfits that completely sold out in their first run. And you thought the male romper made you uncomfortable.
4. Hairy Chest (and back) One Piece Swimsuit
This swimsuit is actually a pretty big deal, capturing international attention. It’s so popular, in fact the company that produces the swimsuit — and other novelty wear — decided to explain where they got the great idea.
“Here at Beloved Shirts we are selling more than just funny or nostalgic clothing, we are in business to provide an experience. We sell apparel that warrants a reaction. These are conversation starters!
“Really, nobody asked for a one-piece swimsuit with a very hairy man’s chest (and back) printed on it. But, the thing is, sometimes you just can’t put what you want (and maybe even need) in words. And that’s what’s so special about this suit. You couldn’t have asked for it, because you didn’t know you needed it, until you saw it. And that’s really what Beloved is all about. That experience.
“So, we will continue to create shocking apparel even if it confuses the whole internet. It’s what we’re good at. Empowering introverts or seeing total strangers start conversations as a result of our clothing is the icing on the cake.”
5. French Baguette Slippers
This is another interesting novelty product from Beloved Shirts. Who wouldn’t want to wear baguettes on their feet, right? It turns out they’re functional, too. One customer even gave the product a five-star review saying, “I can’t stop wearing them! They actually look like the picture and they’re mad comfortable.”
Well, there you have it. You really can buy these things because apparently that’s the state of the world in 2017. But hey, if you were looking for something to shock your friends and family, now you have a few really unique ideas. You’re welcome.
