Kardashian fans, rejoice: Kris Jenner’s house is on the market.
Well, sort of. Actually, not really.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Kris Jenner’s Studio City home is on the market, and for a mere $8.995 million, it’s yours. If you’re an extremely wealthy Keeping Up with the Kardashians fan, that might be difficult to pass up; the property has been featured on numerous episodes of the show, as it’s the home base of the Kardashian-Jenner clan.
Except, of course, that it isn’t. Kris Jenner doesn’t live there, as she’s in Hidden Hills, California, nearly an hour away from this Studio City property.
The on-the-market property actually serves as a stage home, and it’s a wonderful place to film a scene. At 7,800 square feet, it’s enormous, and the Venetian walls give it a luxurious look.
The palatial estate also features numerous statues, detailed woodwork, and even wall murals by artist Giorgio Tuscani. It’s incredibly elegant, which is why it’s a prime filming location.
The Studio City home has showed up on several shows besides Keeping Up with the Kardiashians. It has also appeared on HBO’s True Blood and Rome, so we might argue that it has a more impressive resume than several of the Kardashians.
It has also gained substantial value over the years, as its previous sale price was $5.225 million in 2005. It was briefly listed in 2014 for $6.25 million, but was pulled off of the market. That caused a minor scandal at the time, as people quickly noticed that the interior looked completely different from the interiors depicted on the show.
Yes, that’s true, sadly; while many Keeping Up with the Kardashians scenes show the outside of this property, you might not recognize the rooms during a walkthrough. The foyer looks completely different from Jenner’s home (the TV version, anyway), and the decorations are significantly more ornate.
Surprisingly, the Kardashians have used fake home exteriors for quite a while.
They’ve been open about the practice since 2014. So, why mislead fans?
As ABC News reported, Kim Kardashian explained to Mobo Insider that it’s an issue of privacy.
“My old home in Beverly Hills was really my home & I would get people showing up at all hours ringing my gate & had to call the police on several occasions,” Kardashian wrote. “People hoping [sic] the gate & scaring me. It was so unsafe. The hollywood star tours would stop by too, bc they recognized my home from our show. After that we realized how unsafe it is to show the exterior of our homes. So now we use different homes for the outside for security purposes.”
Kim maintains that the home interiors are all “real,” however.
“When we film inside,” she wrote, “thats [sic] obviously our real home.”
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians crew will be watching the Studio City property carefully. New owners could conceivably deny additional filming opportunities, although the show might be able to re-use old shots of the home exterior depending on the contract.
