There’s nothing worse than discovering unwanted pest in your home or apartment. One of the most frustrating infestations a person can deal with is an ant infestation. These pests are easy to attract and very difficult to get rid of.

Because ants are typically found in the kitchen and around food, people may be hesitant to use chemical bug spray to treat the ant problem. They don’t want this poison to get all over their food, making themselves and their family members sick.

This leads some people to contact a professional to deal with the ant infestation, believing these professionals will get rid of the ants while keeping the family safe. While exterminators can rid of the problem, they often cost quite a bit of money. Also, if you have pets, you may worry that an exterminator could harm our four-legged friends.

Fortunately, there are several simple, all-natural ways to get rid of ants safely and effectively. If you’re dealing with an ant problem, these easy tricks can keep your home pest-free.

Ants hate the smell of cinnamon, so using cinnamon essential oil is a way to rid your home of ants. Just mix one part cinnamon essential oil with one part water. Use a cotton ball to rub this mixture in the area where you’re finding the ants. They should clear that spot almost instantly.

Cayenne pepper also works if you have ant holes, but might seem a bit cruel. For this method, take cayenne pepper and boil it in water. When it’s boiling, take it outside and pour it directly on the ant hill or down the ant hole. It will kill the ants. You may want to use some goggles because the steam coming from that water can burn your eyes.

Another good trick is to just use soapy water to fight an ant infestation. This works if you know where the entry point is. Just take some soap and water and wipe down that spot where ants are entering the home. The ants will lose the chemical trail that they used to navigate and will find another food source.

If the soap doesn’t work, vinegar most certainly will. Just mix a spray bottle with equal parts distilled vinegar and water, adding a little bit of lemon essential oil for scent. Spray down the entry point or anywhere that you find ants. Ants hate vinegar, so they won’t come back.

For those looking to kill ants, a mixture of borax and sugar works wonders. The ants are drawn to the sugar, but then they’re killed by the borax. To make this, add a teaspoon of white sugar and three teaspoons of borax into four cups of boiling water. Stir it until this mixture dissolves. Once it’s dissolved, put some cotton balls in the mixture and let it absorb into the cotton. The ants will be helpless to resist this fatal mixture.

All of these methods are simple, safe, and should keep ants far from your home. If you’re dealing with an ant problem, any one of these methods should clear that right up.
