It’s hard to believe that the first hit in the mega-successful American Pie franchise came out 18 years ago. The movie made its stars household names (or household faces, at least) and set major careers in motion. And it’s all because four friends wanted to lose their virginity before they graduated from high school. Here’s what the gang’s up to these days.
Jason Biggs – Jim Levenstein
Biggs’ career will likely always be defined by the blockbuster and its eight sequels, but he has had other roles. He garnered critical praise for his role as the hapless Larry on Orange Is the New Black.
Eugene Levy – Jim’s Dad
Levy had been acting for years, but his role in American Pie propelled him into the spotlight like he had never been before. He would go on to play the clueless but earnest dad character in many more movies.
Jennifer Coolidge – Stifler’s Mom
Coolidge’s career was also somewhat defined by her role in this franchise. Although she may have been typecast, she never stopped getting roles because she could nail the part so well.
Chris Klein – Chris Ostreicher
Klein was one of the few young actors in American Pie who was slightly established in his career because of his major role in Election, which came out earlier. He would have trouble getting big parts from then on, but he did have a stint on Wilfred that earned him praise.
Alyson Hannigan – Michelle Flaherty
Hannigan was a well-known face from Buffy the Vampire Slayer when she appeared in the films. Still, she surprised us all with her raunchy flute story. She would continue having success after the films with a major role on How I Met Your Mother.
Natasha Lyonne – Jessica
Lyonne’s long career didn’t start or end with the film franchise. She was a child actor on Pee-wee’s Playhouse and more recently she had a major role on Orange Is the New Black.
Thomas Ian Nicholas – Kevin Myers
Nicholas was already a star when he was cast in the movie due to his earlier success with Rookie of the Year. He has worked steadily since then, landing jobs on Party of Five and Grey’s Anatomy.
Shannon Elizabeth – Nadia
Elizabeth’s career took off after the first American Pie, and she’s had many film roles. Lately, she’s surprised fans by revealing that she’s a professional poker player. She even made it to the World Series of Poker.
Tara Reid – Vicky Lathum
Reid’s career was already on fire when she joined the cast. After the movie, she had many more roles, but she’s since been relegated to B-movies, including the Sharknado franchise.
Seann William Scott – Steve Stifler
Scott had trouble being cast in any role but as a Stifler copycat. He surprised the world with a great performance in the hit movie Goon, which is about a hard-hitting hockey player.
Chris Owen – the Sherminator
Owen was never destined to be a major movie star, but he made the most out of his time in the spotlight and found a way to go from playing nerds to getting regular roles.
